    DIY Bridal Shower Gift

Bridal and baby showers are being taken to the next level these days. Between the Pinterest-themed parties, the chalkboard signs, the color-specific dessert tables, the gold and silver foil letters and number balloons…it’s a serious upgrade from the traditional showers.  Now, I am not by any means hating on this shift from basic to bourgeois. Clearly I live for all of this creativity…I mean I have a whole section of DIY projects on this blog, hellooooo!! So for when I attend these modern-day bridal/maternity celebrations, I try to think of a fun, yet functional gift. For the most recent bridal shower I attended over the weekend to honor my good…

    Babymoon #2

We originally weren’t planning on going on another babymoon, since that would probably mean a vacation with Chase…and as fun as it is to be as a family, “relaxation” isn’t the first thought when vacationing with this energetic little monster.  Then here come my Mom and Dad with the home run offer: a Chase-free, weekend getaway before Baby #2 comes.  On top of that, my husband’s Harvard roomies were having a mini-reunion and all renting out a house in Miami for the week. The stars aligned and we booked our flight down to FLA for a 48 hour vacation. Of course the night before Chase woke up at 12, 2…

    Forty and Fatherhood

In celebration of today being my husband’s 40th birthday AND Father’s Day, I felt it only right to hand over the computer to him for a guest author blog post.  Enjoy his personal insight in turning 40 and being a father. Hi there, TherapeuticMiles Husband here. I’ve never written a blog post, but I decided to take my wife’s offer and take a stab at it. Remember being a teenager and wanting to grow up? I couldn’t wait for adulthood! No more exams, research papers or applications to ____ institution of higher education. Like me, you probably thought it was so cool to have a car and to be able…

    Wedding Details & DIYs

In celebration of our 3rd anniversary was yesterday, we watched our wedding video (again). Memories flooded back from that incredibly fun day/night. I also was reminiscing about how much time went into all the DIYs that I did for that one day. Most of it I did weeks and months in advance, but my bridesmaids came to my rescue the days leading up to the wedding when my procrastination caught up to me. I thought I’d share a few of these DIY projects and wedding details/vendors. The decorative theme for the wedding was Parisian-inspired, since that was our first stop on our honeymoon…so lots of lace, damask designs, pearls, script handwriting and…

    3 Years, 3 Lessons

It felt like our anniversary crept up on us this year…between Chase turning 1 and spending the last 5 months being pregnant, there were plenty of distractions. In fact, our daily priorities have naturally shifted to parenting first, marriage if there’s time. I thought I would share the major lessons learned from our 3 years of marriage thus far.  As we experience life transitions together as a couple, it has become obvious that learning together is an essential part of marriage. Year One: Learning to live with each other It’s one thing to have a roommate. We probably have all had one at some point in our early adult life. Some are…

    Myrtle Beach Family Vacation

We took our first family vacation down to Myrtle Beach, SC.  We stayed at one of the resorts that could accommodate all 6 of us, including the little cub. Although we only spent 5 full days down there (not including the 7 hour drive to and from the DC area) we packed as many activities in as possible. I captured some of our own experiences in case you ever take a trip there and need some recommendations. Here are some of the highlights: Mother’s Day brunch at Chestnut Hill  My dad made reservations at this restaurant for brunch to celebrated Mother’s Day.  It’s widely known in the area for their all-you-can-eat buffet brunch…

    Q&A for two

Two years ago I got this book called “Our Q&A a day” which is a 3-year journal for you and your other half. Each day there is a question to answer, sometimes about yourself, about each other, your relationship or very random topics. Each night while getting ready for bed, we take time to answer the question of the day. There are some that can be so simple as “what was your favorite meal today” or more substantial such as “What reminded you today that your partner is the love of your life?”.  Whatever the topic, it always stimulates some type of discussion…but mostly laughter from our stupid answers.  Most…

Two Years Down, A Lifetime to Go

Photo courtesy of Ashley Labonde from Wide Eyed Studios Just like that, 2 years have gone by since we read our vows, said “I-Do” and ran back down the aisle as newlyweds. I was going through our wedding photos and stopped on this one. We were in the middle of our first dance to John Legend’s “All of Me”. We decided to be unique and had my good friend, Miranda, choreograph the entire thing. It took weeks of practice and we were both pretty nervous to perform this in front of family and friends.  The song came on, and Kevin took my hand as we counted out steps in our…

    From Engaged to Preggo

Engagement photo: Erin Scott Photography                                                          Maternity Photo: M Harris Studios   Leading up to our engagement, I had already known Kevin was going to pop the question three months prior. As a traditional gentleman, he secretly drove up to my parent’s home in Connecticut to ask for their blessing.  However, my father accidentally leaked the info to me days later…which of course sent me into a frenzy of thoughts. When will he do it? How do I pretend that I never knew? How do I…

    Maternity Shoot

So one of the things I was looking forward to in my third trimester was capturing this ever-growing bump in some of the last photos of just us two (or four) as a family.  I had stalked Michelle Harris/M Harris Studios on Instagram because I was obssessssssed with her beautiful family shots and loved her style as a photographer. Luckily, she was available and willing to do our maternity and newborn photos. Given that it was the dead of winter, I was really hoping for a snowfall to make it a winter wonderland. However, I had my doubts as the DC rarely gets hit with snow. A week before our…
