New Year, Same Me, New Goals

New year goals….are you someone that believes in making new resolutions at the start of every year? Are you someone that typically fails at them or forgets about them by mid-year if not earlier? You can’t see it, but my hand is raised in the air. However, this doesn’t stop me from planning them each January…because I like to torture myself. Just kidding, but I do appreciate the idea of reflecting on the past, and planning for the future. The word “resolution” is defined as “a firm decision to do or not do something”. That’s a lot of commitment. One thing I’ve learned about life, especially after becoming a mom,…

Give the Gift of Time: Unique Watches for Every Person

One thing I learned about my husband early on in our dating life, was that he was a watch collector. He’s not much of a cuff link or tie-pin guy, so watches are his main statement accessory to his wardrobe. I also learned he’s less interested in the ubiquitous designer watches, but more drawn to unique watches and thoughtfully-crafted timepieces. One company that offers both of these features in their products is JORD, maker of luxury wooden watches. I’ve been eyeing JORD timepieces for awhile online, and when they approached me to do a giveaway partnership, I didn’t hesitate at all! The model of the watch worn by my husband…

    31st Birthday Lessons

Another year, another list of lessons learned. Turning 30 last year was a huge milestone, but what made it even more significant was becoming a mother of two… a week later. What a difference a year makes!! As I embark on my 31st year of life today (or is it technically my 32nd since I’ve already lived 31 years?), I was reflecting on what I have learned over this past year. Here’s what I came up with: I’m more than just a mother. Motherhood takes up the majority of my everyday life, but it alone does not define me. I’m a wife, a daughter, an OT, a friend, a colleague,…

    Fatherhood Reflections

My husband’s birthday always falls near Father’s Day. Last year, he turned forty and I asked him to guest post about Forty and Fatherhood. Since it was such a popular post among readers, I asked if he wanted to do another guest post for his birthday today. For many of our friends and family, they get to see a different side of my husband through his writing voice. So this year, he decided to reflect on new life as a dad of two and what is making his heart heavy. I was about 15 years old and at what I thought was the peak of my physical strength when I…

    The Best Anniversary Gift

I like to be corny and follow the traditional anniversary gift for each designated year. First year is paper, so I got my husband a world map with pins of where we’ve traveled together and I where we plan to go. Second year is cotton, so I got him some clothes…and Cottonelle toilet paper ?. Third year was leather so I got a leather keychain engraved with our wedding date. This year is linen/flowers, so the first thing that came to mind was a hotel bed and luxury sheets. Why? Well like most parents of little ones, uninterrupted sleep is an incredibly rare occurrence.  A typical night usually includes at…

Things I Wish I’d Known Before We Got Married

Since our 4 year anniversary is tomorrow (wow time has flown), I felt it would be appropriate to revisit a book that I read before we got married. Well, to be completely honest, I started reading it before we got married. I actually finished it while on our honeymoon, on a train from San Sebastian to Barcelona. This book was written by Gary Chapman, the author of The 5 Love Languages. If you haven’t read that one, it’s highly recommended for anyone who is single, in a relationship, married, or divorced…because knowing what love language you speak can help you understand others’, and not just in a romantic sense. Here’s a quick…

    One Year of Therapeutic Miles

It’s been exactly one year since launching this blog, Therapeutic Miles!!!! What started as a small canvas to chronicle my “miles” as a wife, mom and OT, has evolved into this limitless space for sharing the words of others as well. It’s become a cathartic release, a big hug, a much-needed chuckle. It’s been a big year for our family. A week after launching, I found out I was pregnant again and by October that baby boy was here. This blog has been so therapeutic for me throughout this big transition. Here are some other things I’ve learned this past year as a blogger: I’ve found my voice as a…

    Finding Balance in 2018

Some people find New Year’s resolutions to be stupid. Some think they’re a great way to start anew in some way. Personally, I side with the latter. I love the annual tradition of reflecting on the past year and finding opportunities to try something new, change old habits and set personal goals. Even if they fall through by February, at least it was an attempt at self-improvement, which I don’t see as a failure at all. It’s the philosophy of “Internal Locus of Control”, which emphasizes one’s own influence on one’s outcomes and experiences. Anyway, as I was reflecting over the past year, I thought about our transition from a…

    Family Maternity Shoot in Georgetown

A few weeks ago, with less than a month before the arrival of Baby #2, we decided to do a final maternity photoshoot as a family of three! Georgetown is one of our favorite areas of DC as it boasts naturally beautiful backdrops and is rich in history. We had our favorite photographer Michelle, owner of M Harris Studios, capture our crazy little toddler, our growing family. Michelle shot our first maternity and newborn sessions when I was pregnant with Chase in 2016. She is incredibly talented behind the lens and captures her subjects in their best light. Michelle mainly shoots engagement sessions and weddings in the DC/VA area, but…

    A Day of Nothing…is Everything

Today, on perfectly fine Sunday, I did nothing…and it was everything. Ok, so let me preface this by saying that my definition of “nothing” is very subjective.  It has dramatically changed from my “nothing” Sundays in my early 20’s, which sometimes would consist of nursing a hangover all day on the couch and watching re-run marathons of Sex in the City or Friends. Once I hit my mid 20’s, weekends became the most productive and enjoyable times of the week. One of the many reasons I married my husband is because we match each other’s sense of adventure and “carpe-diem” attitude. We’ve never been the type to sleep in past…
