Yesterday was the birthday of one of my best friends, Kayla. To celebrate, some of her girls planned a day event at Paradise Springs Winery in Clifton, VA. It’s about a 40 minute drive from downtown DC and sits outside of Fairfax County, VA. Very scenic drive from whichever direction you come.
The main dining and wine-tasting area had the feel of a cozy log cabin with beautiful, cedar ceiling and wall panels, open fireplace and stonework on the bar. We reserved an area in the enclosed outdoor patio since it allowed for more of a private gathering. The venue offers its own dining menu, but also permits outdoor picnic food, provided you have purchased some wine products. We had all contributed small appetizers and treats that would pair well with any wine…but to be honest, there’s not much that we wouldn’t pair with wine. The wine tasting experience was a highlight, as our server gave us great recommendations and very generous sample pours. My favorites ended up being their Sommet Blanc 2014, a white that had a floral aroma and fruity notes, and their Melange 2015, which was a medium red with some vanilla notes and toasty taste. I’m usually not a fan of red, but this one wasn’t too heavy or bitter.
Overall, it’s a great place to host an event for wine-lovers.
